When I do a serious role, it affects me mentally: Karunakaran | Tamil Movie News - The Times of India
For acting, what you mainly need is confidence. If you are confident, you can hit a sixer with any role,” remarks Karunakaran, who will soon be making his Telugu debut with Naga Chaitanya and Sai Pallavi’s Thandel. The actor excitedly talks to us about his interesting lineup of films, which includes Suriya’s
Retro
, Karthi’s
Vaa Vaathiyaar
and Vishnu Vishal’s
Aaryan
, and more.
‘SURIYA SIR ORGANISED A GETTOGETHER FOR THE CREW OF RETRO’
Retro is my first time working with Suriya sir, and I thoroughly enjoyed working with him and, after a long time, with Karthik Subbaraj. Suriya sir organised a get-together for the entire crew once every 15 days. I wish I got to work more often with him. It was amazing to see the way Karthik handled such a big crew. I have seen him since Pizza, and I’m happy to see his growth both as a friend and a fan.
‘KARTHIK SUBBARAJ AND AJITH SIR HAVE A COMMON QUALITY’
What I like the most about Karthik is how much he cares for his crew. This is a quality I have seen in Ajith sir as well. After a scene in Vivegam, I apologised to Ajith sir as we went for a lot of takes. He replied that he too took a lot of takes. Like him, senior artistes share their experiences, motivate you, and try to build a comfort level when you work with them. I might have 10 years of experience, but I still feel like a junior when I act with them.
‘I’M PLAYING KARTHI SIR’S CHILDHOOD FRIEND IN VAA VAATHIYAAR’
I have completed shooting for Vaa Vaathiyaar. I’m playing Karthi sir’s childhood friend in it. In Meiyazhagan, I shot for about four days, and I only filmed with Arvind Swami sir. But, in this film, Karthi sir and I had almost a year-long journey. I have to say that he is wonderfully balancing being the treasurer of Nadigar Sangam and being an actor. Also, I was surprised by his acting in Meiyazhagan, as it’s very difficult to bring out innocence on screen.
‘I WAS QUITE EXCITED TO WORK WITH VISHNU VISHAL AGAIN IN AARYAN’
Aaryan is going to be a nice thriller. I was quite excited to work with Vishnu again. He is playing a cop in the film and has transformed so much for this role. I play a news channel anchor and understand that it’s not easy to read the news as it involves a strong command of the language. I’m also part of Oho Enthan Baby, directed by Krishnakumar Ramkumar; Vishnu’s brother Rudra is making his debut with the film. I’m also doing Perusu, a fun film with Vaibhav, and a fantasy movie called Photograph.
‘SUNDAR C SIR’S RELAXED WAY OF WORKING IS THE BEST’
The audience gives importance to the good characters you play and not the number of roles you do. No one comes and tells me that they are so happy that I did 25 films in a year. They mention only the quality of my work. Going forward, I hope to work in a relaxed way, just like Sundar C sir. He is a cool and calm person in both his professional and personal life. I think his relaxed way of working is the best.
