A look at what will be open and closed on Victoria Day in the Halifax area.
Although Victoria Day is not a general holiday or a designated retail closing day in Nova Scotia, some services will not be available Monday and others will operate with reduced hours.
Most grocery stores, including Costco, Sobeys and Atlantic Superstore locations, will be open regular hours.
NSLC stores will be open.
Halifax Transit buses will be operating on holiday schedules on Monday, May 19.
Alderney ferry service will provide holiday service on Monday, May 19. Woodside ferry service does not operate on weekends or holidays.
On-street paid parking will be free on Monday, May 19.
Motorists are reminded to abide by posted signage.
Many recreation facilities will be closed on Monday, May 19.
The Sackville Sports Stadium will be open regular hours, with the fitness centre and some drop-in programs being offered. Registered programs will not be offered.
All branches and departments of Halifax Public Libraries will be closed on Monday, May 19.
The 311 call centre will be closed, but urgent calls can still be reported. Customer service centres will also be closed.
Garbage collection
There will be no curbside collection of trash, recycling or compost.
The Otter Lake Waste Management Facility, the Halifax recycling facility and municipal composting facilities will also be closed.
