Wettest June weekend with 247mm rainfall | Goa News - Times of India
Panaji: Goa experienced its wettest weekend of the monsoon so far, recording 247mm of rainfall between Friday and Sunday. This accounted for nearly 64% of the total 386mm rainfall received by the state from June 1 to 15.According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) data, the rainfall breakdown for the weekend was 100.8mm on Friday, 52.8mm on Saturday, and 93.7mm on Sunday. The southwest monsoon entered an active phase over Goa.In view of the heavy showers, the IMD issued an orange alert for Goa till June 17, forecasting very heavy to heavy rainfall at isolated places. Additionally, strong winds with speeds of 40–50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, are likely to prevail over the state.Squally weather is expected to persist along and off the South Konkan and Goa coasts from June 14 to 18, with wind speeds reaching 50–60 kmph, raising concerns for maritime safety. Fishermen have been strictly advised not to venture into the seas during this period.In addition, port authorities have been instructed to keep local cautionary signal number III hoisted at all ports from Bankot to Mormugao, under the south Maharashtra–Goa coastal belt.
