National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula has hit back at Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka over allegations of sponsoring goons who attacked opposition leaders' convoy during their tour of the Western region.
In a statement on his X page, Wetangula dismissed the allegations, urging Kalonzo to stop his 'misplaced anger and transferred malice.'
While seemingly providing an alibi to support his assertions, Wetangula stated that he was in Mombasa and was no longer involved in constituency politics, reiterating that he had last been a constituency MP in 2013.
“Kalonzo Musyoka, my brother, as you have correctly addressed me, stop your misplaced anger and transferred malice. I am in Mombasa. Keep out of your angry politics,” Wetangula stated.

“In case your memory fails you, I was last a constituency MP in 2013!” the Speaker further asserted.
Chaos ensued on Friday, July 4, after goons reportedly attacked opposition leaders' convoy moments after their rally in Bungoma County.
The convoy carrying top opposition leaders, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka, former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i, and Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, was attacked in Chwele town.
Videos shared widely on social media and seen by Kenyans.co.ke showed hundreds of individuals pelting stones towards the opposition leaders' vehicles. Others were armed with clubs and chased the leaders away.
Describing how the events unfolded, former nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba alleged that some of the goons drew out knives, while others were assisted by the police to scatter the meeting.
In the aftermath of the chaos, Kalonzo took to his social media, accusing Wetangula of sponsoring the goons. Even so, the Wiper leader maintained the opposition would not be deterred in their mission to make President William Ruto a one-term president.
“Speaker Wetangula's state-sponsored goons throwing stones and firing bullets under the protection of Riot Police did not deter our March to Kitale,” Kalonzo stated.
“Mr Speaker, hear the people of Chwele, Western and Kenya clearly: The United Opposition won't be intimidated by your WanTam-sanctioned stone-throwing goons. Not now, not today, not ever,” he added.
In the past, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has been the subject of several attacks by alleged goons. In the cases where he was attacked, Gachagua often described them as assassination attempts, accusing Ruto of masterminding them.
The leaders are currently in the Western region for the multi-county opposition tour aimed at rallying support and addressing recent political developments, including the Gen Z protests and the alleged misuse of state power.
