In recent years, the Asia Pacific luxury travel scene evolved significantly. Wellness travel moved from an afterthought hobby to forefront in luxury travel with luxury travelers seeking out vacations that take care of their body and mind. What once remained an afterthought is now an integral part of a luxury experience itself with travelers seeking out destinations and services that take seriously the issue of well-being just as they do that of excess. From solo health consults to multi-day wellness retreats, the demands for large-scale, restorative travel are greater than ever before.

According to the latest ILTM Buzz vs. Reality report, revealed during the ILTM Asia Pacific 2025 event by portfolio director Alison Gilmore, 84% of high-net-worth travelers in the region are actively pursuing healthier lifestyles, and many are eager to continue their wellness journeys while traveling. Gilmore emphasized that today’s luxury travelers are no longer solely focused on luxury experiences—they want holidays that nourish both body and mind. This shift in travel priorities has led to an increase in wellness-oriented luxury getaways, where relaxation, health, and mindfulness take center stage.

Gone are the days when a standard massage or spa treatment sufficed. Modern wellness travelers demand personalized services tailored to their individual health goals. The demand for bespoke wellness experiences is growing, with 80% of respondents to the ILTM survey indicating that wellness services designed to address personal goals, like stress reduction, fitness, or detox, are crucial to their decision-making process.

Whether it’s a meditation session specifically designed to calm the mind or a fitness routine that aligns with one’s goals, personalization has become essential. In fact, 65% of travelers now prefer one-on-one consultations with wellness experts, and 53% are increasingly interested in using innovative technology, such as smart rings, to monitor their health progress during their travels.

Asia Pacific destinations are rapidly adapting to this demand. Leading luxury resorts and wellness retreats are offering tailored wellness programs that allow travelers to track their health journey using cutting-edge tech while enjoying immersive experiences that cater to both their body and mind.

In addition to personalization, wellness travelers are increasingly gravitating toward longer, more immersive experiences. The days of quick weekend getaways are slowly fading away as travelers seek longer stays that provide deeper relaxation and health benefits. Nearly 72% of respondents stated that their ideal wellness break spans between 4 to 8 nights, offering ample time for reflection, relaxation, and wellness-focused activities.

The growing preference for extended wellness retreats speaks volumes about the evolving expectations of luxury travelers. Particularly for those from China and Hong Kong, the appeal lies in slow, restorative experiences that allow them to immerse themselves in nature, practice mindfulness, and commit to fitness routines in a peaceful environment. These longer retreats allow guests to disconnect from the pressures of daily life and fully engage in their wellness journey.

Luxury hotels in the region are undergoing a transformation as wellness offerings increasingly influence travelers’ booking decisions. In fact, more than half (55%) of respondents said they would be willing to pay more for rooms that come equipped with wellness-friendly amenities such as yoga mats, exercise bikes, or even in-room massage services. With 67% of travelers stating that hotel wellness offerings influence their accommodation decisions, wellness-friendly rooms may soon become a must-have feature for high-end hotels.

For travelers seeking to combine luxury with health-conscious living, properties that offer wellness-focused amenities such as spa services, fitness centers, and even nutrition consultations are becoming the top choice. As these offerings become more widespread, it is clear that wellness has evolved from a trend to a requirement for many luxury travelers.

Wellness travel, once seen as a solitary pursuit, is now increasingly inclusive of families and couples. More than half (54%) of respondents expressed interest in bringing their children along on wellness retreats, while a third are open to including extended family members. The most popular travel companions, however, remain partners, with 66% of respondents preferring to embark on wellness journeys as couples.

This shift reflects a growing recognition that wellness is a family and group activity, not just an individual endeavor. As a result, many wellness destinations are tailoring their offerings to accommodate families, with special programs for children or family-focused fitness activities that allow everyone to join in the rejuvenating experience.

Wellness travel is gaining so much traction that even travel advisors are becoming integral to planning these specialized trips. According to the ILTM survey, 66% of respondents view travel agents as crucial in planning their wellness vacations. For many, the expertise and reassurance that comes with booking through a travel advisor enhances the experience, offering peace of mind when it comes to navigating wellness retreats and services.

Despite the rise of wellness apps and digital booking tools, travel agents continue to be a valuable resource for those looking to ensure their wellness vacation meets their unique needs. Their expertise in curating bespoke experiences, booking top-rated wellness resorts, and providing on-the-ground knowledge can help travelers make the most of their wellness journey.

While wellness travel is often associated with careful planning and long-term commitments, spontaneity still plays a role. Some 65% of travelers admit to spontaneously booking wellness activities during their holidays, whether it’s a last-minute spa treatment or an impromptu yoga class. This flexibility is particularly appealing to those seeking balance and relaxation without rigid schedules.

As wellness travel continues to evolve, hotels and travel advisors are wise to keep a range of flexible wellness offerings on standby. From quick massages to on-demand meditation sessions, these options can cater to spontaneous wellness needs and provide travelers with more freedom to relax when they need it most.

For many, the idea of a luxury holiday was traditionally tied to indulgence—think extravagant meals, lavish shopping, and over-the-top experiences. However, this mindset is shifting as more than 60% of respondents express interest in following a bespoke diet plan during their travels. Wellness-minded travelers are now seeking purposeful holidays that go beyond indulgence, aiming for healthier lifestyle choices and activities that nourish their body and soul.

Wellness travel is clearly more than a passing trend—it’s reshaping the way luxury holidays are planned and experienced in Asia Pacific. With increasing demand for personalized services, longer immersive retreats, wellness-friendly hotel rooms, and family-oriented experiences, the wellness industry is poised to become a cornerstone of high-end travel. As travelers seek more meaning and balance in their vacations, destinations, hotels, and travel agents are adapting to meet these needs, ensuring that the future of luxury travel is one that nurtures both the body and the mind.

As the wellness boom expands, it is no longer a secret that the next luxury retreats will not only focus on relaxation and pampering but healing, mindfulness, and health as well. With the traveler looking to rebalance themselves physically and emotionally, the luxury travel journey into wellness is just beginning.
