Welcome to the frenzy of the "Jaws" 50th anniversary.

For the Cape and Islands there are a lot of connections.

The Steven Spielberg blockbuster was filmed on Martha's Vineyard, with actors and locals.

It premiered on June 20, 1975, and Cape Codders saw it first at the Dennis Drive-In Fly-In and the Mashpee Cinema, and elsewhere.

In the coming days, readers will find stories about fears of sharks, the evolution of shark studies and shark tourism. There are stories about seeing the movie for the first time, the movie's effects on Cape movie theaters, and the impact of the John Williams' score. There is an interview with an Islander who has carved out a career (and royalties) from signing up as an extra in the movie. There is a 2000 interview with "Jaws" author Peter Benchley, and another 2000 interview about the 25-foot mechanical shark(s) named Bruce used to make the movie.
