According to the police, the suspects, Mohammed Basit, aged 18, and Baba Rashid, aged 22, broke into the officer's room at around 12 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, while he was away.

They reportedly made away with a Smith & Wesson pistol loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition, as well as CZ rifle magazines each loaded with 30 rounds.

Following intelligence-led operations, the suspects were tracked and arrested at Kperiga, a suburb of Walewale, where they had allegedly hidden the stolen firearm and ammunition in a vehicle.

Police say investigations are ongoing and the suspects will be arraigned before court in due course.
