Kenyans are mourning the untimely death of Wafula Chebukati, the former IEBC chairperson.

The prominent lawyer was happily married to Mary Wanyonyi for over 30 years. The two lived a quiet life away from the limelight and only celebrated each other during important events. They were blessed with three children, Rachel, Jonathan and Emmanuel.
On July 17, 2023, after Mary took oath as Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRA) chair, her husband romantically celebrated her.
He reminded his beloved wife to remain faithful to the Constitution and the law, in a message he shared on X (formerly Twitter).
"Congratulations Mary on your appointment as Chairperson of the Commission on Revenue Allocation @CRAKenya! Your dedication and expertise will undoubtedly contribute to the mandate of the CRA and prosperity for all Kenyans. Keep your fidelity to the Constitution and the Law. Wishing you great success in this important role," he wrote.

On December 31, 2023, which was Chebukati's last message to wife publicly, he shared a photo of them posing at a golf course, wishing Kenyans a great New Year, 2024.
"Swinging into the New Year with my dear wife, Mary. Wishing everyone the best as we usher in the new year 2024," he captioned the photo.
