Wafula Chebukati, the former chairman of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), has died.

Following 's revelation last week that he was gravely ill, his death has been confirmed.

After being admitted to a Nairobi hospital, the former head of IEBC has been receiving treatment there for almost a week.

Chebukati, 64, passed away on Thursday at 11 p.m.

The former head of IEBC was admitted to the hospital's intensive care unit. The cause of Chebukati's illness is yet unknown.

Chebukati retired in January 2023 after serving as the IEBC chair for a complete six-year term.

The ex-IEBC boss has largely kept his family away from the limelight, however, despite their low-key nature, his children have carved out impressive careers in different fields.

While he has not made many public appearances with them, on several occasions he celebrated their milestones on social media.

TUKO.co.ke explored their backgrounds, and here’s what we know:

Rachel Chebukati, the eldest of the former IEBC boss’s children, has built a solid career in the legal field.

According to her LinkedIn profile, is an Advocate of the High Court and currently serves as a Senior State Counsel under the Office of the Attorney General and the Department of Justice.

She assumed this role in July 2021 after earning a promotion from her previous position as a State Counsel.

Before joining public service, Rachel gained experience working in top law firms, including Simmons and Simmons, where she was an Associate Advocate.

Her journey into law was shaped by a strong academic background, having pursued her studies at various well-known institutions, including the University of Dundee.

Emmanuel, the last-born in the family, has established himself in the tech industry as a cloud security engineer.

As seen on his LinkedIn profile, his expertise spans areas such as system auditing, application security, and secure cloud deployment.

His father often celebrated his career milestones, highlighting his achievements on social media.

Emmanuel’s journey in tech began in 2015 when he worked as an information security consultant at a tours and travel company.

This came shortly after he completed his training under the Presidential Digital Talent Programme.

Later in his career, he joined NatureSurf Systems Ltd as a system developer.

He is currently working on scaling Hepta Analytics, a data analytics company he co-founded, in Kenya and Rwanda.

Jonathan is the last-born child in the Chebukati family. There is little publicly available information about his career path and photos

The late Chebukati said that August was a special day to him since his mum and daughter were born during the same month.

In 2023 the family went to Diani to mark his mother and daughter's birthday. He wrote:

"The month of August is forever etched in my memory, but not for the reasons you would think. In August, I celebrate the birthdays of both my mother and my daughter. This year, as a family, we marked the occasion in Diani, Kwale. Happy birthday once again Rachel and Mama Joina!"

Emmanuel received praise from his father after he earned his MBA from USIU. The tech guru's dedication and hard work were the hallmarks of his success.

The late had penned:

"Congratulations son on earning your MBA from USIU Africa. Your hard work and dedication has paid off, and the family is proud of you!"

also reported that President William Ruto shed light on the events surrounding the announcement of the August 9, 2022, presidential election results.

Ruto was speaking at State House Nairobi on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, during a meeting with Constitutional Commissions and Independent Offices.

He alleged that there was a scheme to assassinate then-IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati.
