Speaking at her late father's burial service in Kiminini, Trans Nzoia County, Rachel emotionally recalled her last conversation with him just before he left for the Bomas of Kenya to announce the winner of the 2022 presidential election.

She revealed that it was at that moment she learned her father had received intelligence that someone intended to take his life to prevent him from announcing the winner.

"I sat with him before he went to Bomas. At that time he had already received intelligence that somebody wanted to end his life, just to stop him from announcing the results," Rachel said.

They then invited pastors to pray for Chebukati, seeking God's guidance for the critical task ahead of him.

Additionally, she said that she reaffirmed her father that she was confident he would remain committed to the truth despite the circumstances.

"I told him I know he had to do it for the country. We looked at each other without really saying much but knowing that that might have been the last time, we would have seen each other," she added

She added that it was the first time she had ever seen her father cry, overwhelmed by the immense pressure of the task before him.

Rachel added that despite the chaos at the Bomas of Kenya, Chebukati successfully declared William Ruto as Kenya's fifth president. However, he returned home injured and bleeding.

At the same event, Mary Chebukati, the late IEBC chair’s wife, recalled receiving a distressing call urging her to rush to the hospital.

Dressed in a white dress and struggling to hold back tears, Mary said she received the hospital’s notification around midnight.

She said she insisted on knowing what had happened, but hospital staff urged her to go to the facility in person.

Shortly after, she received another call informing her that Chebukati had suffered a cardiac arrest and that attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful. She was then informed that her husband had passed away.

Chebukati was declared dead on Thursday, February 20, after a prolonged fight with brain cancer.

He passed away at 63 after serving two terms as the IEBC chair, overseeing the 2017 and 2022 General Elections.
