The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has confirmed the arrest of three examination officials in the ongoing 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for alleged involvement in examination malpractices.
The two invigilators and a supervisor were allegedly caught using their mobile phones to assist students at their assigned centres.
Speaking to Channel One TV on Wednesday, June 11, the Head of Public Affairs for WAEC, John Kapi confirmed the arrest of the officials who were complicit in the alleged malpractice.
“So far, everything has been moving smoothly but the unfortunate thing is that we have picked up about 2 invigilators and 1 supervisor who used their phones to help students. So, our officers have picked them up, and they will be handed over to the Police,” he said.
According to the report, the arrests occurred in three seperate regions: Greater Accra, Ahafo, and Bono East.
WAEC has reassured the public that strict measures are in place to detect and prevent any form of malpractice during the examination period.
The examination commenced on June 11 and is expected to end on June 18.
