Seurei Vince was allegedly poisoned by a roommate at Sensei Institute of Technology in Gilgil, Nakuru County.
He had posted a puzzling message on Facebook, alleging that the person who poisoned him was a hostel occupant who had tried to force him to vacate their room.
He shared the room with three other roommates, but sadly, he was betrayed by one of them.
His father spoke with deep pain at the funeral, which was attended by friends and family.
They all joined the bereaved family in mourning the university student, paying their final respects and laying him to rest after his tragic death.
“Vinny’s father is so heartbroken. Did you have to do this? Vinny was set to travel to the United Kingdom (UK) in September. He had cleared his son’s school fees. People of goodwill, tag the responsible authorities. We want justice,” read a message in the tribute video.
Seurei's father said the family had suffered a major blow following the death of the young man, who was described as the light of the family.
Together with his wife, he expressed how the loss of their bright and promising child was a heavy burden to bear.
“I would not wish to repeat what my children have said, together with my in-law Silas. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is continuing to dig deeper and follow up on the report about the cause of Seurei’s death.
When they took samples of what Silas had mentioned, including cement, they continued investigating and testing them. I may need someone to help push for the early release of the results. I will try to find time and travel to Nakuru to follow up on the updates,” he said.
He revealed that Seurei was their fifth-born child and that the family had high expectations for him.
Seurei had expressed his desire to attend Sensei, and the family fully supported his decision.
“We wanted to help him so that he could gain the necessary skills to travel abroad. He was set to fly out in September. He only needed the skills and a visa as the minimum requirements for his departure. We had even paid his school fees. We are very saddened. We never anticipated that by sending our son to school, we would receive such devastating news. It was never our intention. To my family, I say sorry,” he added.
In his parting remarks, Seurei’s father asked for forgiveness from anyone his son may have wronged.
He encouraged anyone who had unresolved issues with his son to approach the family and, if he owed them anything, to come forward.
