Utah Basketball Lands Talented Wing in Transfer Portal
On Saturday afternoon, and the Utah Utes added a big name in the transfer portal with the commitment of a talented wing.
Iowa forward is the latest player to join the Utes in Salt Lake City after spending last season with the Hawkeyes.
Last season at Iowa, Traore saw time as a depth piece, posting 5.9 points, three rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game on 43.6% shooting from the field. In the year prior, Traore was elite at Manhattan College, averaging a near double-double with 11.8 points and 8.2 rebounds per game.
Coming out of Our Savior Lutheran School in the Class of 2022, Traore was listed as an unranked prospect by most major recruiting services. Just two years later, however, the former Hawkeye was listed as a three-star prospect by the 247Sports index and the 329th-ranked player available in the transfer portal.
The transfer portal officially opened on Monday, March 24, 2025. According to NCAA data, 1,296 FBS basketball players entered the transfer portal in the 2023-24 school year, with 864 (66.7%) undergraduates and 432 (33.3%) graduate transfers. Of the entrants, 70% reported that they enrolled in another school, 6% withdrew their names from the portal, and 23% are still active, transferred to a non-NCAA school, or left their sport.
