The United States International University Africa, USIU-Africa, has installed new leadership, marking a significant new chapter rooted in visionary leadership, innovation, and a shared commitment to transforming lives and societies through education.
Ambassador Dennis Awori has been installed as Chancellor, alongside Prof. Mwenda Ntarangwi, who officially assumes the role of Vice Chancellor.
The installation ceremony symbolized a fresh start for the university, emphasizing its mission to cultivate proactive, inclusive, and responsive leadership aligned with the dynamic needs of the world.
In his speech, Ambassador Awori highlighted the university’s dedication to excellence, innovation, and societal impact, emphasizing the importance of leadership, diversity, and practical education in shaping Africa’s future.
“USIU-Africa is truly a pan-African university— a beacon of hope and a cradle of possibility, where minds are enriched, futures are shaped, and leadership is cultivated,” Awori stated.
He expressed his honor at being entrusted with the role of Chancellor, acknowledging the university’s diverse student body from across the continent and its role as a hub of talent and ambition.
Awori paid tribute to the outgoing leadership, particularly his predecessor, Dr. Manu Chandaria, praising his contributions to the university’s development, including the establishment of the Chandaria School of Business and his mentorship of countless students.
“His legacy has been instrumental in positioning USIU-Africa as a center of excellence,” he remarked.
Congratulating Prof. Ntarangwi on his appointment, Awori expressed confidence that his leadership would propel the university to new heights.
“His vision and leadership will undoubtedly elevate USIU-Africa to greater success. Together, we are committed to advancing a shared mission rooted in excellence, innovation, and integrity,” he said.
Professor Ntarangwi reaffirmed the university’s foundational values and emphasized the importance of lifelong learning in adapting to the evolving professional and personal landscape.
“Lifelong learning prepares our students to remain adaptable, open to new ideas, technologies, and methodologies— essential in today’s fast-changing world,” he stated.
They highlighted the university’s strategic focus on emerging fields such as Sustainability and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG), underscoring the importance of equipping students to address critical issues like climate change, environmental degradation, and social equity.
Awori emphasized that universities must go beyond traditional knowledge transfer to foster critical thinking, adaptability, and ethical leadership—skills vital in the digital age marked by artificial intelligence and rapid technological advancement.
He stressed that education should be practical and transformative, particularly in tackling regional challenges such as youth unemployment, food insecurity, and health crises.
“Our Innovation and Incubation Center, along with the Flagship Design Your Future Integrated Innovation Pipeline Program, are powerful platforms for nurturing student ideas into impactful ventures,” he concluded.
