The No. 5 Connecticut Huskies are coming off their most impressive performance of the season, dominating the No. 6 South Carolina Gamecocks 87-58 on Sunday at Colonial Life Arena.
With the victory, UConn improved to 24-3 on the season and has now won 14 of their last 15 games as they head into the final stretch of the regular season, with a matchup against Seton Hall on Wednesday night.
On Tuesday, some prestigious news came for UConn star guard Paige Bueckers, who has been having an outstanding season with the Huskies. UConn revealed that Bueckers has been named a semifinalist for the James E. Sullivan Award.
Fellow superstar Juju Watkins of USC was also named a finalist for the honor, which recognizes a player’s excellence on the court as well as their character, leadership, citizenship, and sportsmanship.

Bueckers' journey with the Huskies has been filled with both triumphs and challenges. In 2022, she suffered a torn ACL that ended her season, required surgery, and forced her to miss the entirety of the next season.
However, she has made a remarkable comeback and remains one of the most prominent athletes in college basketball. Now in her final with UConn, she continues to be one of the best players in the country and is expected to be a top pick in the WNBA draft.
This season, Bueckers is averaging 18.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, 4.6 assists, 2.1 steals, and 0.6 blocks, while shooting an impressive 52.6% from the field and 41.6% from beyond the arc.
With just four games left in the regular season, the Huskies are on the verge of securing one of the four No. 1 seeds in the NCAA Tournament. This year, the field is wide open, and the competition for the championship is expected to be fierce, with teams like UConn firmly in the mix.
