Notre Dame Women Projected As Overall No. 4 In First Pre-NCAA Top 16 Reveal
Notre Dame would be the No. 4 overall season in the NCAA women’s basketball tournament if the tournament started today. The Irish showed up at No. 4 overall behind (in order) UCLA, South Carolina and Texas in the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Committee’s top 16 rankings, which were unveiled Sunday on ESPN.
The Fighting Irish, winners of 17 consecutive games, were ranked behind Texas despite their head-to-head 80-70 overtime win over the Longhorns on Dec. 5. Texas is also ranked behind South Carolina despite a recent head-to-head win over the Gamecocks.
The Irish also have wins over current No. 6 ranked USC and current No. 7 UConn. Those teams were ranked No. 3 and No. 2, respectively, at the time Notre Dame beat them.
USC, LSU, UConn and NC State are the No. 2 seeds. The No. 3 seeds are TCU, Duke, North Carolina and Kansas State. Kentucky, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Tennessee are the No. 4 seeds in the first of two-pre-selection day seeding reveals. The next reveal will be on Feb. 26.
The official 68-team field for the 2025 NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship will be announced during the NCAA Women’s Basketball Selection Show on Sunday, March 16 at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN.
