Paige Bueckers' UConn Huskies made a major statement by blowing out South Carolina on Sunday. Amid the dominant road win, Bueckers wasn't eager to discuss her team's strong start.
Bueckers posted 12 points, 10 assists, and seven rebounds in an 87-58 victory over the Gamecocks. UConn entered halftime up 23 after outscoring the defending champions 24-9 in the second quarter.
Despite putting on a show at Columbia, Bueckers hoped to avoid a halftime interview.
A fan posted a video of Bueckers running off the court before ESPN's Holly Rowe stopped her to request an on-air interview. Bueckers stopped, tilted her head backward, and put her hands over her head in dismay before accepting her fate and turning around. Teammates patted a seemingly exhausted Bueckers on the back after her thwarted escape attempt.
Here's a look at the funny moment:

Once the camera rolled, Bueckers showed no signs of displeasure. While struggling to catch her breath, the 23-year-old had a normal one-minute conversation.
"We wanted to play on our feet today," Bueckers told Rowe. "Throw the first punch. We knew it was going to be a rough environment -- great environment -- for women's basketball to play in. Just come out, have fun, and play with a toughness."
Bueckers praised the "tremendous" play of first-year starters Sarah Strong and Jana El Alfy. The fifth-year senior also anticipated a steeper challenge from Dawn Staley's Gamecocks in the second half.
"We just got to stick to our gameplan, stick to what we did in the first half," Bueckers said. "Don't shy away from it, embrace it, and continue to do that."

A South Carolina rally never materialized. UConn didn't trailed after the first quarter and cruised to a blowout win behind 28 points from Azzi Fudd. The Gamecocks hadn't lost at Colonial Life Arena since December 2020.
"They had their way with us," Staley said after Sunday's loss, per ESPN's Alexa Philippou. "There's no trying to find a silver lining to it. We got beat. We got beat bad."
A year after making the Final Four, UConn could be poised to make another deep NCAA tournament run this March. Unfortunately, that may mean more interview obligations for Bueckers.
