journalist Connor Humm revealed on 21 February that Chelsea want to sign Mitoma as they are looking to strengthen their attacking options.
However, Brown has explained they may be reluctant to spend the type of money Brighton will ask for as there are concerns about his consistency.
Mitoma signed a new four-year contract in 2023, and will still have two years remaining on his deal in the summer, placing Brighton in a strong negotiating position.
Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted Brighton remain keen to keep their best players at the club as they continue to make progress.
“Brighton aren’t interested in letting him leave the club,” he told
“He’s a key player for them, and we’ve seen how highly they value their key players, it would take a huge offer for them to consider his exit.
“There’s been interest from Chelsea this season, they’ve been having a look as they want a new winger.
“But I think they’ve got a few concerns about him.
“At his best, he can be devastating, he tears people apart and has the end product to match.
“Then, he’ll go months at a time where he doesn’t make anywhere near as much impact on the game.
“Now, he’s making a bit of a resurgence and everybody’s speaking about him again.
“Lots of wingers go through spells on and off, it’s nothing against him, but Chelsea have to make the decision about what his average level is.
“At his top level, he’d be great for them, but it’s about if he can do it week in, week out.
“Whatever they decide, though, his future is in Brighton’s hands because he’s under contract there.
“I’m told he’s happy at the club and I don’t think he’s the type to angle for a move away or anything like that, and Brighton want him to stay.
“So even if there is interest from Chelsea, there may not be much they can do about that.”
Brighton’s recent success in the Premier League, and continued impressive performances under Hurzeler, have led to almost endless speculation surrounding their best players.
In recent years, the likes of Moises Caicedo, Marc Cucurella, Robert Sanchez, Ben White and Alexis Mac Allister have all made moves away from the Amex.
Now, Brown told on 25 February that Liverpool want to sign Carlos Baleba and are preparing a mega-money offer for his signature.
The Reds are keen to strengthen in midfield, and have identified the 21-year-old as the ideal option to strengthen Arne Slot’s squad.
