According to The Athletic, Liverpool have agreed a €136.3 million (approximately KSh 23.8 billion) deal for the transfer of attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz, who will become Liverpool's most expensive footballer ever.

The 22-year-old will also become the most expensive German footballer ever. The move demonstrates Liverpool's quest to strengthen their team after lifting the 2024/25 Premier League crown.

Wirtz, who inspired Bayer Leverkusen to their first-ever Bundesliga crown in the 2023/24 campaign, becomes the third most expensive player in history, per Transfermarkt.

He will also become the Premier League's most expensive player.

The veteran attacker left Real Madrid to join Juventus in 2018 for €112 million (approximately KSh 17 billion). He won two Serie A titles and a Golden Boot before returning to Manchester United.

The England international is the joint-most expensive English footballer ever. Man City paid €117 million (approximately KSh 15 billion) in 2021 for his services, but he has struggled to live up to expectations.

One of Barcelona's biggest mistakes in the last few years was signing Antoine Griezmann for €120 million (approximately KSh 18 billion) in 2019. He returned to Atletico in 2021.

Eden Hazard left Chelsea in 2019 to join Real Madrid for €120.80 million (approximately KSh 18 billion) after brilliant performances in the Premier League. His time in Spain was difficult despite winning trophies. He retired in 2023.

Chelsea broke their transfer record in January 2023 to sign Enzo Fernandez for €121 million (approximately KSh 18 billion). He struggled in the early stages but has improved significantly.

Dembele is the frontrunner for the award after a brilliant season with PSG, where he won the treble.
