Tiv youths urge Tinubu to end killings, land-grabbing in Nasarawa
TIV Youth Organisation (TYO) has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to urgently intervene and end the ongoing violence, killings and land-grabbing targeting Tiv communities in the state.
This was as Governor Abdullahi Sule named the newly completed Lafia Flyover and underpass after Tinubu.
Making the announcement during yesterday’s commissioning of the project in Lafia, Sule said the project was inspired by President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and that prudent resource management made it possible.
At a briefing in Lafia, the President of TYO, Isaiah Audu, decried the wave of unprovoked attacks that devastated numerous Tiv settlements across four local councils.
He said the repeated violence led to the loss of innocent lives, the destruction of farms and the displacement of thousands of Tiv residents.
According to Audu, the most recent incidents on June 13 and 15, 2025 affected Dooga Ayande in Doma Local Council, Antsa in Keana Local Council, Tse Yange in Obi Local Council, and Tse Akura in Giza Area Administrative Council.
Among the victims reportedly killed during the attacks were Mr Terfa Tswabee, Mr Sham Kyodo, Zaki Ordue and Teryem Apav.
He appealed to Tinubu to use his visit to engage with security agencies and Nasarawa authorities to bring the attacks to an end and ensure justice for the affected communities.
Ahead of the President’s arrival, massive crowds of residents, including schoolchildren and political supporters, lined the major roads, waving banners and chanting slogans in support of both Tinubu and Sule.
Meanwhile, according to the governor, the state was able to carry out the landmark infrastructure without borrowing a dime.
The one-kilometre dual facility is now officially ‘Bola Tinubu Exchange Road’. Earlier, while inaugurating the project, Tinubu appreciated Sule for focusing on initiatives that directly improve the lives of the people.
He also expressed joy for the warm reception accorded him by the people of Nasarawa and called on the residents to remain committed to the administration’s vision of economic recovery and national prosperity.
Tinubu touched Usman Dan Fodio Airport, Lafia, at about 1.55 p.m. and was received by Governor Sule and some All Progressives Congress (APC) governors who came to show solidarity. He commended Sule for his prudence in the management of state resources to change the aesthetics of Lafia town.
Other projects commissioned by Tinubu include the ultra-modern state secretariat complex.
