Thunderstorm, cloudy sky likely in city today

Ahmedabad: The city experienced partly cloudy skies and occasional breeze on Monday, with the maximum temperature at 39.1°C, 2.2 degrees below normal. The minimum temperature of 28°C was 0.1 degrees below normal.Later at night, some western city areas around SG Road experienced light drizzle. The India meteorological department (IMD) has forecast that Tuesday's maximum temperature is likely to be in the same range, with chances of cloudy skies, rain or a thunderstorm with wind speed of 30-40 kmph. The northern limit of the southwest monsoon continued to pass through Mumbai and Ahilyanagar in Maharashtra and Puri in Odisha.

Experts earlier indicated that it may take a few days before the further progress of the monsoon trough.Due to local systems, some parts of the state received light rain on Monday. Till 8pm, Hansot in Bharuch had received 17mm of rainfall, followed by 10mm in Karjan in Vadodara, 8mm in Dholera in Ahmedabad, and 6mm in Dabhoi in Vadodara. In all, nine talukas received 1mm or more of rain.At 39.5°C, Surendranagar recorded the highest maximum temperature in the state, followed by 39.1°C in Ahmedabad and 38.9°C in Vallabh Vidyanagar, among others. Majority of cities and towns recorded maximum temperatures below 38°C.
