Three more police officers record statement over Albert Ojwang's murder
Three officers, among them the Officer Commanding Station at Mawego Police Station, where the late Albert Ojwang’ was briefly held before his controversial transfer to Nairobi, have now recorded statements as investigations gather pace.
The arrest and brutal killing of their beloved teacher has left Mawego residents gripped by fear. Meanwhile, Ojwang’s family has welcomed the progress made so far, with seven suspects already in custody.
They are now urging authorities to speed up the probe and deliver the justice they so desperately seek.
At Mawego Police Station in Homa Bay County, Teacher Albert Ojwang’ was held for less than an hour on June 7, 2025.
From here, he was controversially whisked away to Central Police Station in Nairobi, where his life was cut short in a brutal killing that has since sparked national outrage.
Now, as investigations into Ojwang’s murder intensify, the spotlight has turned on the very officers who were part of his last journey.
Two policemen who, alongside their colleagues from DCI Nairobi, arrested the late teacher at his home in Kakoth Village as well as the station’s Officer Commanding Station have since recorded statements as the search for justice gathers momentum.
For the residents of Mawego, the police station now stands as a haunting reminder of the day their beloved teacher was taken a day he was seen alive for the last time, before vanishing into tragedy.
"Bado tunahofia maisha yetu baada ya Albert kuletwa kwa hii police station," Vida Omondi, a Mawego resident, stated.
"Sisi kama vijana wa Mawego tunaogopa kuandamana kwa sababu tunaweza kamatwa kama Albert," Gilbert Okoth another resident pointed out.
"Wazazi wetu wanateseka kutulipia school fees ili tuwalishe wakiwa wazee... Sasa sisi tunaogopa tunaweza shikwa kama Albert," Justus Odhiambo, a student at Mawego Polytechnic added.
In Kakoth Village, the home of the late Albert Ojwang’, preparations are quietly underway for his final send-off, with the family expected to announce the burial date in the coming days.
Grief-stricken mourners continue to stream in, offering comfort and solidarity to the family, which clings to hope that the ongoing investigations will finally deliver justice for their son.
"Tunapoomboleza tunataka uchunguzi ukamilike na haki itendeke. Wanaoandamana ni kwa sababu ya uchungu wanaopitia kuhusu mauaji hayo. Tunasubiri serikali kutuhakikishia kwamba haki itatendeka," Herman Opiyo, the family spokesman, noted.
