"This Is The Absolute Best Way We Can Tell This Story": Daisy Ridley Addresses Her Next Star Wars Movie, Confirms She Has Been "Very Involved"

Published 1 month ago3 minute read

Daisy Ridley has stressed how involved she is with Rey's New Jedi Order movie, an optimistic sign for the future of Star Wars. Two years ago, at Star Wars Celebration 2023, Lucasfilm announced Daisy Ridley's return to Star Wars. Progress has been slow, and many have worried director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's project will join the too-long list of canceled Star Wars movies. Fortunately, Daisy Ridley has now stressed how involved she is in the process, an optimistic sign.

Speaking to Collider while promoting her new movie Cleaner, Ridley has stressed that she's personally involved in the development.

“I don’t know that I’d be a producer on it, but . I’m involved in, well, not very involved, but I’m involved in as much as I know what’s going on, I know the story, I know what’s going on with the script, so I’m aware of all that. And I think what’s been really wonderful over the last few years is being more involved from the start to finish, really coming to set knowing . These are the best actors for the job. This is the best crew for the job. Having that confidence is so lovely. And it’s not that I didn’t have that before, but I’m much more cognizant of it now. So in that way, I’m looking forward to turning up, really knowing the ins and outs of what the journey has been, and we’re arriving at the absolute best place to tell this particular story.”

Ridley's comments are exciting to see, because she feels almost like a custodian or guardian for Rey's New Jedi Order movie. This should add an element of consistency to Lucasfilm's developing plans for Rey.

Ridley's comments come shortly after concerning reports that hinted Lucasfilm's plans are in flux, with multiple projects in the works for Rey in particular. , which means she has a strong sense of the direction she wants Rey to go. Lucasfilm know how valuable Rey is to Star Wars right now, and they're not going to do anything that risks compromising their relationship with Ridley.

Ridley's updates were initially disappointing, as she told ScreenRant this wouldn't even be her next movie to go into production. The delays are certainly frustrating, but Ridley is still on board, and she sounds to be engaged with the entire process this time round. While - especially given the sheer number of canceled projects and a history of behind-the-scenes drama - the signs are positive. Obaid-Chinoy's movie feels more like a matter of "when," not "if."

All this leaves a single intriguing question, one we're no closer to getting an answer to: What exactly is Rey's role in the New Jedi Order? Obaid-Chinoy's pitch was unexpected enough to leave Ridley excited, leading to her Star Wars return. That suggests movie could be very different to anything viewers are imagining. Hopefully, even if there aren't concrete updates, there will be some hints at this year's Star Wars Celebration.
