The year 2024, particularly, has delivered some of the most creative, heartwarming, and appealing cinematic animated experiences so far.
“The epic adventure follows the journey of a robot--ROZZUM unit 7134, "Roz" for short -- that is shipwrecked on an uninhabited island and must learn to adapt to the harsh surroundings, gradually building relationships with the animals on the island and becoming the adoptive parent of an orphaned gosling.”

The Wild Robot is now quite rightly considered one of the best movies of not just last year, but in years, and boasts a score of 97% “certified fresh” from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, alongside an even more impressive score of 98% “verified hot” from audiences on the Popcornmeter. “A simple tale told with great sophistication, The Wild Robot is wondrous entertainment that dazzles the eye while filling your heart to the brim,” the critics’ consensus reads, with audiences saying the movie “will steal hearts both young and old.”
MovieWeb’s own Julian Roman heaped praise on The Wild Robot upon release, calling it DreamWorks’ best movie since the beloved How to Train Your Dragon (which itself is now getting a live-action remake), with the delightful sci-fi adventure somehow surpassing even the highest expectations.
“DreamWorks Animation just delivered their best film since the classic How to Train Your Dragon. The Wild Robot surpasses the highest expectations. Your heart will soar as a machine designed for human servitude learns how to love and becomes a doting mother to an orphaned gosling. She also transforms the lives of the surrounding animals by teaching them to grow beyond their natural instincts and work together for the collective good. A tear or two may be shed in a truly beautiful climax. Families are going to be overjoyed.”
As well as receiving rave reviews, The Wild Robot also did big business at the box office, grossing $333.8 million worldwide against its $78 million budget. The movie was also nominated for a trio of Academy Awards, including Best Animated Feature. Following such success, it should come as little surprise to learn that a sequel is now in the works, with director Chris Sanders saying in October last year, “100% yes there are absolutely plans for a second one.”
