The Studio Season Finale, "The Presentation" Its a Lukewarm Wrap to an Otherwise Great Show

Published 10 hours ago4 minute read

Apple TV+’s The Studio has reached its finale after 9 episodes of absolute chaos and humorous satire on the movie-making business. The finale episode, episode 10 called “The Presentation,” is here, and it is the perfect end to the ruckus created in the previous episodes.

The previous episode had set the stage for the presentation. Still, the problem was that everyone was high as a kite and incapable of even walking straight, let alone presenting in front of hundreds of people. The presentation is Matt and his team’s attempt to prevent the Studio from being sold to Amazon. The episode attempts to help Bryan Cranston sober up enough to present. Do they succeed? Let’s find out.

‘The Presentation’ is a perfect representation of the complexities of the entertainment business, highlighting an ongoing tug of war between commercial demands and creative aspirations. Matt’s only effort in this episode is to be able to present a wide range of movies through the studio, whether it is the Kool-Aid movie, Blackwing, or Silverlake.

He wants to do this to project big numbers for the studio, which will prevent it from getting sold. Seen in a multi-episode cameo are Zoë Kravitz and Dave Franco. While Zoë is instrumental to the story, Dave is simply put here as a favor, it seems, to rigorously promote his movie, Now You See Me. It is the second consecutive episode, and all he is here for is talking about his movie. Guys, it’s not even subtle anymore.

Anyway, the ensemble cast is at its best, punch after punch, we got Sal, Quinn, Patty, and Maya at their most charged, and united front, trying to do only what’s right for the organization at the moment, forgetting all about their internal problems, right from episode 9, which set the stage for a fire finale.

Everyone is trying their best to get Griffin to over up and on the stage, so much so that they give him a huge snort of cocaine. Nothing helps, as he still lands flat on his face on the stage, and can’t get anything beyond the word “movies” out of his mouth.

Seth Rogen’s The Studio is known for its signature style of satire comedy, roasting the who’s who of Hollywood, the finale episode finally brought in hints of character development, and we are here for it. Matt was finally seen valuing his team over his job, mentioning gratitude towards them on stage. Now, whether it was real or for the sake of the presentation, we’ll never know (wink).

Katherine O’Hara (Patty) forgets being bitter towards Bryan Cranston (Griffin) for taking away her job and helps Matt get him on stage because she values the studio more. Ike Barinholtz (Sal) and Chase Sui Wonders (Quinn) forget all about their past rivalries and work towards helping Matt with all their might. There were strong themes of resilience, grounding, and accountability seen in ‘The Presentation’, and it is something that made the show seem a little deeper than the slapstick comedy it usually serves.

If I’m completely honest, I was expecting a tad more from the end, some kind of fireworks, some jaw-dropping moment created by Griffin, or some revelation that felt like a huge incentive for all the hard work Matt and his team had put in.

The final scene where everyone just starts chanting ‘Movies’ is symbolic, yes, because the show is all about movies and people making movies, but it still felt a bit lackluster. With another season officially announced by Apple TV, we hope The Studio can discover newer realms of humor, depth, camaraderie, and satire, but for now, it’s a wrap!

Matt and his brigade of trouble-makers do their absolute best to control the chaos and end up delivering a lukewarm finale to the satire comedy.
