Published 1 week ago2 minute read

Following a successful debut on PC, The Operator is heading to Nintendo Switch on May 22. Developed by Bureau 81, the game has already made waves since its original release in July 2024, earning over 6,000 “Very Positive” reviews on Steam and receiving the prestigious Pégase Award for Narrative Excellence.

Inspired by the tone and intrigue of The X-Files, The Operator places players in the role of an FDI agent. It is a covert government organization responsible for uncovering high-level conspiracies. As an Operator, players must work behind the scenes, navigating a digital interface to gather evidence, analyze data, and unravel the activities of a cybercriminal mastermind known only as HAL.

At its core, The Operator is a narrative-driven investigation game. Each mission starts with a case file from FDI field agents. From there, players dig through virtual crime scenes and sift through databases using a variety of advanced tools. Whether it is scanning chemicals with ChemScan, identifying suspects through the Citizen and Vehicle Database. Or using the Photo and Video Analyzer to uncover hidden details, every tool plays a part in cracking the case.

Players will face a range of investigations, including murder, cyberattacks, and disappearances. Every case that they solve will bring them closer to HAL. With its unique format and engaging storytelling, the game offers a fresh take on detective games that blends immersive mechanics with gripping narrative depth.

Now making its way to the Nintendo Switch, The Operator is set to reach a whole new audience of sleuths ready to dive into its web of secrets.
