A new movie produced by Live Nation Productions and starring two alums from The Office will feature a plot inspired by alternative rock/punk powerhouse Green Day. Per Variety, the film, titled New Years Rev, is a comedic coming-of-age story of three friends who travel to Los Angeles and on New Year’s Eve (so no worries about waking up Billie Joe Armstrong before September ends).

The three friends who think they are opening for Green Day, which consists of Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tré Cool will be played by Mason Thames (who also stars in the upcoming live-action How to Train Your Dragon), Kylr Coffman, and Ryan Foust. It will also star Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey, who played Pam Halpert (nee Beesly) and Angela Martin respectively during The Office’s entire run from 2005 to 2013. The pair currently host the Office Ladies Podcast.

New Years Rev’s logline reads: “Their roadtrip is a rowdy and mischievous jaunt across the country filled with adventures,

The movie is written and directed by Lee Kirk, who wrote and directed 2012’s The Giant Mechanical Man, which also starred Fischer as well as Chris Messina (The Mindy Project). Production on New Years Rev is happening currently in Oklahoma.

Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong had this to say in a statement about the film: “Van days rule. of a friend of a friend’s house 50 miles east of anywhere you’ve ever heard of. But you’ll do it again the next day, and the one after that. Because you’re doing it with your bandmates who become your family and it’s unlike anything you’ve ever known. It’s electric. Let the music and mischief ensue.”

Tim Perell for Process is the film’s producer along with Armstrong, Dirnt, and Cool; and Stella Bulochnikov for Pat Solitano Productions. Ryan Kroft and Michael Rapino for Live Nation Productions and Jonathan Daniel will serve as executive producers.

“With incredible guidance from Green Day, - long nights, endless miles, and the electrifying rush of the stage fueling their journey,” Kroft said of the project. “Brought to life by an incredible cast, it’s a tribute to the magic of live music,” he added.

Live Nation Productions has produced such films as the Academy Award-winning A Star Is Born starring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, as well as Love, Lizzo, and Moonage Daydream, which chronicled the career of David Bowie.

Green Day, which formed back in 1987, has sold more than 75 million records worldwide. The band released its latest record Saviors in 2024 and will headline Coachella in April.

A release day for New Years Rev has not been announced.
