Tension is mounting in Juja following the disappearance of area Member of Parliament George Koimburi,  who went missing on Friday.

The MP had reportedly been pursued by individuals believed to be State agents shortly after attending a bursary issuance event at Gachororo Primary School grounds.

Although the MP reportedly managed to flee the scene on a motorbike, his driver was arrested during the chase and taken to the DCI headquarters.

“Yesterday, while we were compiling uncollected bursary cheques, Mheshimiwa called one of our senior colleagues and informed him that he was being chased by about five Subaru vehicles. We abandoned everything to try and catch up, but we couldn’t,” a witness told The Standard yesterday, adding:

“Later, we were told that the driver had been arrested at gunpoint. However, we still do not know the whereabouts of the MP. The driver and the vehicle were taken to DCI headquarters and were later released after recording statements.”

The driver was released later that night.

Earlier this week, a police officer attached to Koimburi was reportedly ordered to report back to his station.

Lawyers from the newly unveiled Democratic Change Party (DCP), associated with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, demanded that the government immediately produce the missing MP.

Led by advocate Stephen Mbugua, a member of the Law Society of Kenya Council, the legal team claimed that Koimburi was accosted by plaincloth officers in what appeared to be a dramatic chase following the public event.

“It is unfortunate that this government is disregarding court orders issued by Justice Abigail Mshila of the Kiambu High Court in our earlier miscellaneous application dated 28/2025.”
