Ghanaian musician and activist Tee Tonie is set to release his new single, "Carry Africa Upon My Head," on June 5, 2025. The song is a reggae-infused anthem that calls for unity, self-reliance, and accountability, with a message of Pan-African solidarity.
The track celebrates Africa's untapped wealth, while sharply contrasting it with systemic failure and corruption. Tee Tonie critiques the exploitation of Africa's resources, singing, "Africa… we have everything they need in this world… money, diamonds, oil! But we are still begging as if we got nothing." The chorus, "Carry Africa Upon My Head—I will not let it fall!", becomes a rallying chant, urging citizens and leaders to take responsibility for the continent's future.
The song blends reggae rhythms with Ghanaian melodic flair, incorporating percussion and call-and-response vocal traditions. Tee Tonie draws inspiration from Jamaican legends like Bob Marley, while celebrating Ghana's cultural legacy.
The song's release coincides with Africa Day celebrations, amplifying calls for continental unity. Tee Tonie will collaborate with Ghanaian reggae collectives and youth activists to launch a #CarryAfrica campaign, pairing the release with community dialogues on resource equity. A portion of proceeds will fund grassroots tech hubs in Accra and Kumasi.
