Tech bootcamp launched in Lagos to empower underserved young women
In a push to close the gender gap in Nigeria’s digital economy, the Hopesalive Initiative for Africa (HAI), in partnership with Edunity.ng and supported by the French Embassy Fund for Civil Society Organisations (FEF-OSC), officially launched the She-Levate Tech Digital Empowerment Bootcamp on Monday, June 30, 2025.
The event, themed, “Equipping Underserved Young Women with World-Class Digital Skills, Mentorship, and Opportunities,” took place at the HAI Digital Learning Hub in Gbagada Phase 1, Lagos.
The 16-week bootcamp targets 60 young women from vulnerable communities across six local council areas of Lagos, Bariga, Yaba, Ikorodu, Kosofe, Mushin, and Surulere, offering them hands-on training in six high-demand tech fields, including Product Design, Frontend and Backend Web Development, Data Analytics, WordPress, and Digital Marketing. The programme begins officially on July 1 and runs through October 2025.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, Head of Programmes at Hopesalive Initiative for Africa, Akapo Olusegun, described the programme as “a movement, not just training.”
He emphasised that She-Levate Tech is designed not only to transfer skills but to inspire, mentor, and position participants for real job opportunities, with a goal to place at least 70 per cent of the cohort in internships or employment.
He said: “This is about restoring voices, reawakening dreams, and reshaping futures for young women who deserve a seat at the table. It is our goal to raise digital queens who will not only thrive but transform their communities and our nation.”
