The Confederation of African Football (CAF) officially unveiled the new trophy for the TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, in Morocco, the host nation for this year’s tournament.
The launch, which took place both digitally and at a special event with sponsors TotalEnergies, marks a significant milestone in CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe’s vision to elevate and develop women’s football across Africa.
The 12-team tournament is set to begin on Saturday, July 5, 2025, with the opening match between hosts Morocco and Zambia at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat.
This is the second consecutive time Morocco is hosting the competition, having also staged the previous edition two years ago.
The tournament features strong teams including the current champions South Africa, who will defend their title in Group C alongside Ghana, Mali and Tanzania.

The new trophy symbolizes the growing prestige and investment in women’s football on the continent. Alongside the trophy unveiling, CAF announced a substantial increase in prize money, rising from $975,000 in the previous edition to $2.4 million this year.
This reflects CAF’s commitment to providing greater incentives and recognition for female athletes and their achievements.
