The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered is easily one of this year's biggest games, bringing the janky but lovable RPG to modern systems for the first time. We've been able to revisit all of our favorite guilds, re-experience our favorite quests, and become frustrated with some of Oblivion's more archaic design choices all over again, and it's very much a success story driven by nostalgia.
Any game that can even come close to matching the numbers that Oblivion has set across various different metrics can consider itself fortunate, and that's exactly what a new RPG called Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon has done since launch. Described a "scrollslike" RPG inspired by Oblivion, Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon launched earlier this week to very positive reviews and a pretty decent peak player count.

While Oblivion Remastered may have the higher amount of positive reviews and peak player count, there is one key area in which Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon has come out on top. First spotted by Game Rant, Twitch viewership for Oblivion has dropped pretty sharply over the past few days, with Twitch tracking site SullyGnome claiming it has an average daily viewership of about 4,000 right now.

Oblivion Remastered's Success Is A Sad Sign Of Where Video Games Are Right Now
As the best selling game of last month, Oblivion Remastered proves we are still obsessed with nostalgia.
In comparison, Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon is currently getting an average Twitch viewership of around 17,000 right now, making it more than four times more popular than Oblivion Remastered on the platform at the moment. Of course, Oblivion Remastered has been out longer, but Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon has nowhere near the same amount of name recognition or impact as a whole.
Coupled with the fact that the game also has a lot fewer players and fewer sales than Oblivion Remastered, it's honestly impressive that the game is being watched by so many people on Twitch. It's also possible that this popularity among streamers may boost its player count as we head into the weekend and end of the month, when people can pick up the game for the first time. Going toe-to-toe with Oblivion in any metric is impressive right now, so here's hoping Questline's new RPG can keep it going.
