JOHANNESBURG - The demise of football clubs with a rich history has become the norm in South Africa. Supersport International has confirmed the sale of SuperSport United to Siwelele FC.
The club will be based in Bloemfontein, but is not returning as Celtic. Fans in the Free State, known around the country for their passionate support, will not care, as long as they have a team to back again.
The sale was made during a closed bidding process, pending approval by the PSL Executive Committee. Siwelele FC will play their home matches at the iconic Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium.
Sports Minister Gayton McKenzie denies being one of the buyers, but admits family members are involved.
