FOSDA Calls for Calm After Deadly Clashes in Ghana's Nkwanta | News Ghana
At least three deaths were reported in recent clashes linked to unresolved chieftaincy and land disputes.
In a June 30, 2024 statement, Executive Director Theodora W. Anti condemned the hostilities and appealed to community leaders, elders, and youth to prioritize safety and cease actions endangering lives or property. FOSDA emphasized that persistent tensions undermine regional development and demand proactive mediation.
The group called on Ghana’s government to bolster resources for the National and Regional Peace Councils, enabling collaborative intervention with civil society. Security forces received commendation for “timely intervention” and arrests, with FOSDA stressing that their continued neutrality is vital for trust-building.
Residents were urged to exercise restraint to prevent further casualties, displacement, or economic disruption. The violence highlights ongoing instability in resource-rich border regions under President Mahama’s administration.
