Super Eagles midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi, has reaffirmed his support to the construction of Maracana Sports Complex in Ajegunle, describing it as a ground to unearth and nurture talents for the country.

Ndidi who stated this during his visit along with six of his national team mates at Maracana children fest, relived the memories of the stadium during his childhood, saying it has produced exceptional football players for the country.

“Ajegunle has produced great players. In Lagos state, I feel they have produced more talents. When I was young I used to hear Maracana but I have never been there but when I saw this project, I said I was going to key in and that was how it came about and we just need to keep the name Maracana alive,” he said.

The Super Eagles midfielder underscored the importance of grassroots sports development, expressing his commitment to support young ones both in their academic and football aspirations.

Ndidi who was accompanied by Victor Osimhen, William Troost- Ekong, Victor Boniface, Raphael Onyedika and Frank Onyeka said they were at the Maracana Stadium to inspire and support the kids.

The chairman, Nathaniel Idowu Foundation Yemi Idowu expressed delight over the visit of the Super Eagles players to the stadium, describing it as a source of inspiration to the young ones.

“There are many ways the football players can give back. It is not only to play football for Nigeria. They can participate in all these kinds of social events.

“What they have done here is enough. We have discussed, this is the kind of support they can give and if they can do more, we don’t mind,” he said.
