Soludo meets Anambra diaspora in U.S., reaffirms commitment to governance
Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has met with members of the Anambra diaspora community in the United States and North America as part of a town hall engagement focused on accountability and participatory governance.
The meeting, held in Maryland on Sunday, is part of a series of outreach efforts by the governor to provide updates on his administration’s policies and progress while gathering feedback from citizens living abroad.
In a statement released ahead of the event, Soludo’s Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, said the forum was consistent with the governor’s approach to treating governance as “a continuous contract with the people,” rather than a task tied to election cycles.
Aburime stated that Soludo’s engagement with the diaspora community was aimed at maintaining transparency and involving Anambra indigenes abroad in discussions on the state’s development.
He described the diaspora as “critical stakeholders,” noting their role in investment, philanthropy, and professional expertise.
“By engaging the diaspora, Soludo recognises their critical role in the state’s development. Many Ndi Anambra in the U.S. and Canada are key investors and professionals whose contributions can further accelerate the state’s growth,” Aburime said.
The statement added that the administration had previously held similar town hall meetings in Lagos, Abuja, and the United Kingdom. According to Aburime, these meetings allow the governor to present updates on his “Solution agenda,” which includes economic transformation, infrastructure development, education reforms, and security.
“This is not an election campaign stop,” the statement noted. “It is another chapter in his administration’s untiring dedication to accountability and inclusive governance that has been the trend in the past three years.
“Soludo’s decision to embark on this Diaspora engagement at a time when others would be focusing solely on the upcoming election speaks volumes about his leadership philosophy.
“Unlike typical politicians who flood the airwaves with their usual empty promises as elections approach, Soludo is choosing to let his record speak for itself. His administration has held similar town hall meetings this year: first in Lagos, then Abuja, and later in the UK/Europe, where he presented his achievements, addressed concerns, and outlined his vision for the future of Anambra State.
“This upcoming US/North America meeting is a continuation of that noble tradition. It demonstrates that Prof. Soludo sees governance as a continuous contract with the people, not just a seasonal obligation tied to election cycles. While his opponents are busy making grand declarations or criticising his government, Governor Soludo is busy reporting back to the people, proving that his administration values transparency and performance over political theatrics.”
He added that the Maryland town hall offered an opportunity to align diaspora support with the state’s priorities.
The meeting comes months ahead of the 2025 Anambra governorship election. Aburime noted that while opposition candidates are focusing on campaign activities, Soludo is continuing with governance-focused engagements.
Governor Soludo has been in office since March 2022 and is expected to seek re-election.
