Shawnee police investigating deadly apartment fire Friday night
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One person is dead following an apartment fire Friday night in Shawnee, Kansas.
The fire was reported just before 7:30 p.m. at the Pinegate West Apartments at W. 65th Street and Nieman Road.
Crews with the Shawnee Police Department, Shawnee Fire Department, Overland Park Fire Department, Consolidated Fire District No. 2 and Johnson County MED-Act responded to the fire and encountered fire coming from one unit and worked quickly to bring the fire under control and spreading to other units.
Police said during fire suppression efforts, responders found an injured person and provided medical treatment outside.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. They have not been identified at this time.

The cause of the fire and the victim’s death remains under investigation by Shawnee police and Shawnee fire investigators.
