Scott McTominay scored a stunning scissor-kick volley to help Napoli beat Cagliari in their final game of the season to bag the Serie A title.

The former Man United star opened the scoring in the 42nd minute before another former Red Devils star, Romelu Lukaku, added a second early in the second half to secure the three points.

Antonio Conte's team needed to beat Cagliari to lift the title. Inter Milan defeated Como, so there was no margin for error for Napoli in an electric Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

After the full-time whistle, McTominay was seen crying. One of his teammates consoled him. As the reality sank in, the Scot began celebrating with his teammates and fans.

Napoli won the title in 2023, and it seemed it would take a while for them to bounce back, especially after Victor Osimhen and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia left the club.

Man United sold McTominay last year for £25.7 million. The sale sparked mixed reactions, but he has since repaid all the faith placed in him.

He was named the Serie A's Most Valuable Player (MVP) for the 2024/25 season.

"I'm lost for words. It's incredible you know, the sacrifice that every single player in the group has put forward to the cause," said McTominay after the game.
"And the people deserve it because they've been behind us from day one, and for me to come and experience this is a dream."

He played 34 Serie A games, scoring 12 goals and registering six assists., per Transfermarkt.

@lauriewhitwell:

"What a moment for Scott McTominay. There were several people at #MUFC who didn't want to sell him, not least Erik ten Hag, but he has found new life at Napoli, tapping into his attributes + the culture."

@REDevilsreview:

"Really delighted for Scott to get the title. It was probably right to move him on at the time, but no doubt he would have been useful for us in retrospect."

@bootsy118:

"Absolutely criminal to sell him. Top character who scores important goals. Amorim would kill for him now."

McTominay made over 250 appearances for Man United.

Earlier, reported that Ruben Amorim offered to quit Manchester United after their Europa League loss.

The Portuguese tactician has come under fire after the Red Devils suffered a humiliating defeat in the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur.

Amorim said he will not change his style or quit, but if the board and fans want him gone, he will walk.
