Sam George meets DStv today over subscription price reduction
DSTV subscribers in Ghana may soon benefit from a reduction in subscription fees, as the Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation, Sam George, prepares to hold a crucial meeting with both the Ghanaian and South African teams of the service provider over subscription rates.
The Minister is firm in his stance that DSTV’s pricing must reflect prevailing economic conditions, and has described the upcoming discussions as critical to achieving pricing reforms in the interest of consumers.
Sam George said the move forms part of the government’s broader push to ensure fairness in digital service pricing amid ongoing concerns over cost burdens on households.
“We will use the power of the state to protect the citizens of the state. I am clear in my mind that the meeting will not come to an end without an agreed reduction in the price.
“I have seen the attempt by the South African management to say that when you buy a package, they should upgrade you to the next one. We are grateful, but that is not what we want. We want a price reduction,” the minister demanded during a press briefing on Thursday, July 3, 2025.
