Nana Okufrobour, also known as Nana Abudu, a traditional chieftain from Ghana's Ashanti Region, was slain by gunmen in Kokoben, near Barekese. The unfortunate tragedy occurred approximately 9:00 p.m. on January 15, 2025, immediately in front of his home.

According to eyewitness testimony and police investigations, the sub-chief was repeatedly attacked and fatally shot. When authorities arrived at the scene, he was already dead, his body bathed in blood. Medical authorities confirmed his death, and various personal things were recovered from the scene.

While the exact cause for the death is unknown, authorities believe it was linked to longstanding conflicts amongst competing sub-chiefs in the area. The body has been sent to the morgue, where an autopsy will be performed to assist the inquiry.

Assemblyman Yahaya Saeed, who talked with Asaase News, described the tragedy as surprising and sad to the community. He claimed that many people believe the attack was motivated by unresolved land concerns, although the police have not validated this idea.

"This is a horrible and terrifying scenario. "Nana Okufrobour was a pillar in this community," Saeed said. "We are deeply hurt by this loss."

Law enforcement has committed to conduct a thorough investigation and bring the offenders to justice. They also urged the public to be calm and fully cooperate with the current inquiry.
