Leader Oradea delivered the twenty second win on Monday night. This time they crushed 6th ranked Brasov (15-9)
92-66. Oradea dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Brasov's 28. They outrebounded Brasov 37-23 including a 25-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. Canadian center Kalif Young (206-1997, college: Providence) fired 20 points and 9 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) for the winners. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Oradea maintains first place with 22-3 record. Targu Mures will play against the league's leader Oradea and hope to get back on the winning track.
We should mention about the upset which took place in Sibiu, where 4th placed Voluntari (18-7) lost to eleventh ranked Sibiu (10-15) in a road game 75-80 on Friday. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Voluntari. The game was dominated by American players. Jalon Pipkins stepped up and scored 28 points for the winners. At the losing side Mike Caffey responded with 15 points and 4 assists. Sibiu have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain eleventh place with 10-15 record. Loser Voluntari keeps the fourth position with seven games lost. Sibiu will meet higher ranked Pitesti (#5) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Voluntari will play against Brasov and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
