New Delhi: The arrival of pre-monsoon rains in Delhi on Tuesday provided the citizens with respite from the persistent heatwave, but, as usual, the downpour resulted in the familiar problems of waterlogged streets, overflowing drains and slow traffic in various parts of the capital.The rain began in the afternoon, with strong winds sweeping through several parts of the city, including various locations in south and central Delhi. The India Meteorological Department issued an alert in the evening, forecasting thunderstorms, lightning and moderate to heavy rainfall in several areas, among them Jafarpur, Narela and Dwarka.Despite tall claims by govt agencies, the moderate showers impacted traffic movement after many areas suffered accumulation of water on the roads.
X user Sarthak Gupta, highlighting the condition of waterlogged roads at the Punjabi Bagh-Patel Nagar intersection, posted, "With the triple engine govt, I was really hoping things would be different this monsoon. However, with the first rain in Delhi, the city is already drowning.
No hope from this system anymore."Rajya Sabha MP Sagarika Ghose similarly posted on X, "Unprecedented and shocking amount of waterlogging in Delhi after only the first couple of hours of monsoon rain.
Delhi chief minister, less photo ops and more real work in road drainage please." Advocate Geet Sethi too was angered by the deluge near the DDA sports complex in Paschim Vihar. "It's time to question and fix accountability. People are forced to walk through dirty water despite Delhi CM Rekha Gupta promising that this time there will be no waterlogging," he said in a video on X.Traffic was affected on Rohtak Road at Peeragarhi Chowk due to flooding near Bhera underpass.
Waterlogging at Mundka metro station also disrupted vehicular movement from Rajdhani Park to Mundka and vice-versa. Visuals from Mahipalpur showed heavy water accumulation near the underpass and vehicles submerged in the water. Similar conditions were reported near Indira Gandhi International Airport on the Dwarka route, at Subroto Park, Mayur Vihar Phase II, ITO and near Punjabi Bagh.

40, traffic slowed significantly, with diversions ordered at Inderlok Chowk.Atishi, leader of the Opposition in Delhi Assembly, highlighted the condition of the main road in Mundka when she posted on X, "Mundka me 4 engine ki Bjp sarkar ke karisme ka nazara. Where is the Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta who stated that no waterlogging on Delhi Roads will happen this monsoon?"Reacting to the post of former AAP MLA Parmila Dhiraj Tokas about a vehicle stuck at Satya Niketan Colony in RK Puram, AAP leader Saurabh Bhardwaj also posted on X, "Char engine ki sarkar, Vikshit Bharat ki Vikshit Delhi."Meanwhile, sources said PWD received complaints about waterlogging primarily from the Zakhira underpass and Punjabi Bagh areas. Till 6pm, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi received complaints of waterlogging at 12 places in Delhi, including Vasant Kunj, Paschim Vihar, Sudharshan Park, Janakpuri and Rohini. It also received complaints of trees falling in Naraina village and Vasant Kunj C Block.
