Reini who was expecting to complete his walk solo, said he is grateful to God for Sivenkosi’s companionship and physical support with wheeling the cross. “We know each other and we work together and pray together,” he said.

He said that other than a bruised left shoulder from pushing the cross and toughing it through some bitterly cold weather, he is fit and focused on the mission.

Last week Reini and Sivenkosi met up with Peace Walker Siyanda Dlamini and his three partners who have been accompanying him walking across parts of Africa to declare God’s blessing over the continent. The Peace Walker group is currently heading for Cape Town. Both teams were blessed with accommodation at Rondefontein Guest Farm at Springfontein.

Reini said he is grateful for many people who have provided accommodation and support along the road. He said motorists often stopped and asked him to pray with them and others stopped for a chat and to be videoed with him and the cross. A TikTok video from one of the roadside encounters has already had over a million views, he said.

He said his biggest cheerleaders on the road are truck drivers. “They hoot, sometimes they throw a bottle of water out the window. and some of them stop.”

Sivenkosi said he had not felt ready to join Reini at the start of his walk as he had been dealing with personal and family responsibilities at the time. But he had linked up with him last week out of a sense of obeying the call of God.

During the walk he was praying for his parents and his siblings in the rural Eastern Cape area of Mount Ayliff (officially eMaxesibeni). His father, who was retired from working for the Correctional Services, was starting a farming project. His mother was working as a teacher, despite health problems. Both of them were also active in Christian mission work.

Sivenkosi said that his dream is to empower people, in his community and beyond, with entrepreneurial skills to make them independent. “Then we can tell them about God while their stomaches are full.”
