has finished filming, and a release date has officially been set — a little less than seven years after the original film, , opened in theaters. Ready or Not: Here I Come was confirmed to be in development in 2024, and has been moving along quickly, with Ready or Not directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett returning to helm the sequel. In addition to the original film's final girl, returning, the cast includes (Abigail), (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), (Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes), (Deadly Class), (The Pitt), (Lost), (Lord of the Rings), and (yes, that David Cronenberg).

Searchlight Pictures confirmed, via Variety, that Ready or Not: Here I Come will open in theaters on April 10, 2026. They also confirmed the end of filming via a photo of stars Samara Weaving and Kathryn Newton together, with Weaving wearing a red dress that contrasts nicely with the white wedding dress she wore in the original film. Newton's costume appears to be covered in blood.

'Scream 7' had to tackle a new story after Melissa Barrera was fired, and Jenna Ortega opted not to return for the seventh installment.

Ready or Not opened in theaters on Aug. 21, 2019, and followed Grace (Samara Weaving) as an unlikely bride who marries into a family of ultra-wealthy devil-worshippers that plan on killing her during a game of hide and seek before sunrise. The original film grossed $28 million domestically off a $6 million budget and earned positive reviews from critics. The film launched directing duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett to new heights, as the duo went on to direct beloved horror favorites like 2022's Scream, 2023's Scream VI, and 2024's Abigail, which featured Ready or Not: Here I Come stars Kathryn Newton and Kevin Durand.

Ready or Not: Here I Come will open one week after Universal Pictures' Super Mario World, though it will compete for a different demographic. Ready or Not: Here I Come's most significant competition will come the following week, as April 17, 2026, will see Sony Pictures' The Mummy, from Evil Dead Rise director Lee Cronin, open in theaters. While it might be a box office bloodbath, horror fans will have plenty to enjoy as Cronin and the duo of Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett are among the most exciting names in horror right now.

With Ready or Not: Here I Come opening six and a half years after the original film's release, it will be curious to see if the long gap could help or hurt its box-office fortunes. Six years has certainly been enough time for the original film to build up a cult following — which it has — making anticipation high. However, horror movies also tend to strike while the iron is hot and turn sequels out quickly, as long gaps can result in the film's momentum dying down. With the right marketing campaign, and a budget as reasonable as the first film, Ready or Not: Here I Come stands a good chance of turning a profit and recapturing that same magic as the original movie.
