Kottayam/Thrissur: Kuttanad continued to be affected by the aftermath of rains as many regions remained waterlogged on Tuesday. Sixty-six relief camps are functioning where 10,167 people from 2,831 families are residing.
Camps have been opened in Ambalappuzha (19), Kuttanad (18), Karthikappally (10), Mavelikkara (4) and Chengannur (15). Though water receded from the AC Road, waterlogging continues in Mankombu junction. Travelling to Champakkulam grama panchayat office, civil station, Pulinkunnu engineering college, Thattassery, etc. is not possible due to waterlogging.Meanwhile, KSRTC services have resumed along Edathua-Veeyapuram and Haripad routes.
Water level receded by around 1.5 feet in Champakkulam and Neerettupuram. KSRTC service from Kavalam to Changanassery via Kainady has resumed. However, KSRTC service to the village areas in Kuttanad has not yet resumed. As rain subsided, the ban on shikara boats and small boats was lifted in Alappuzha district. However, the ban on adventure sports at Alappuzha beach continues. A holiday has been declared for all educational institutions in Kuttanad taluk on Wednesday.
Shutters of Poomala dam to be openedThe irrigation department officials have announced that the shutters of Poomala dam will be opened soon as the water level in the reservoir was rising fast. However, there is respite in the intensity of rain in the district in the last two days. According to an official release, the maximum possible water level in the dam is 29ft. The water level has already crossed 27ft, and the shutters will be opened when it touches 28ft.
