In the now widely shared clip, Leecoff candidly narrates his journey from academic excellence to working as a matatu conductor, popularly known as a makanga.

Leecoff reveals that he was once a top-performing student at Kisumu Boys High School, where he scored a commendable B+ in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).

The strong grade earned him a direct placement at Pwani University, where he pursued a degree in Civil Engineering.

After years of dedication and sacrifice, he graduated with second-class upper honours—a result that gave him hope for a promising future.

However, the harsh reality of Kenya's competitive job market quickly set in. Despite his qualifications, Leecoff says he struggled for years to secure meaningful employment.

Faced with mounting bills and the pressure to survive, the young graduate made the difficult decision to become a matatu tout.

In his video, he reflects on the irony of shouting for passengers in dusty streets despite having spent years studying complex engineering concepts.

His story has struck a chord with many Kenyans who expressed admiration for his resilience in the wake of adversity.

Another cross-section decried the systemic challenges that force educated youth into low-paying, informal jobs.
