Rose Obuya is over the moon following the kindness of the Principal Secretary for the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, Raymond Omollo.
The civil servant continued to showcase his philanthropic side by building a beautiful house for Obuya, a single mother.
Victor Ayugi, the WEP coordinator, spoke to about Obuya’s journey as a new homeowner.
"We met her in January 2025. She is a member of the Kuja Nyokal Widow Group, which, as the name suggests, aims at helping widows. One of the group members reached out to us and shared Obuya's situation," he said.
Obuya is a single mother of five. She lost her husband a decade ago when she was 28 years old. Since then, she has been taking care of her children, and with the support of the Kuja Nyokal Widow Group, she has been able to fend for her family and educate her kids. The group rents out chairs and offers catering services. The money they earn is used to empower the widows," he explained.
Obuya lived in deplorable conditions, which prompted one of the group members to seek further help for the now 38-year-old woman.
Ayugi shared photos of the small, mud house where Obuya and her family lived, revealing the heartbreaking state of their life—something that moved Omollo to take action.
The PS built her a lovely house and organized a beautiful housewarming ceremony as Obuya moved into her new home.
"She was very happy and thanked the PS for building her a house and gifting her furniture," Ayugi said.
They also bought her shopping items in bulk to help her begin her new chapter in the upgraded shelter, which served as a beacon of hope.
Omollo also promised to pay the school fees arrears for Obuya's son, who is in Form Four, to ensure he completes his high school education without financial struggles that can affect his academic performance and future.
Obuya and her family were all smiles as they settled into their new home, expressing deep gratitude to Omollo for his generosity.

In another story, Grace Adhiambo had a reason to smile after moving out of a single-room shack she shared with her children.
They always lived in fear of being swept away by the rain due to the poor condition of the semi-permanent structure.
The mother of three, who lived in a single-room mud house covered with polythene sheets, moved into a beautiful house whose construction was facilitated by Omollo.
She appreciated Omollo for providing her and her family with safety and dignity in their new home, as they posed for lovely pictures.
