In a formal petition, Mr. Kumi, popularly known as Adenta Kumi, alleges a serious breach of judicial ethics and conflict of interest involving two committee members and legal counsel for one of the petitioners.

He claims the integrity of the inquiry has been “compromised” and warns that continuing with the current committee risks turning the entire process into a “sham.”

According to the petition, on the evening of May 15, 2025—coincidentally after the committee’s inaugural sitting—Justices Gabriel Pwamang and Samuel Adibu-Asiedu were allegedly spotted dining with Thaddeus Sory, the legal representative of one of the petitioners, at Santoku Restaurant in Accra. Supreme Court Justice Yonni Kulendi was also reportedly in attendance.

Kumi states that the individuals were overheard discussing details related to the case, raising significant concerns over impartiality.

“The meeting between Justices Pwamang, Kulendi, and Asiedu with Thaddeus Sory clearly has destroyed the integrity of the process and reduces public confidence in the process so far,” the petition reads.

Further amplifying his concerns, Kumi notes that Justice Pwamang has previously ruled in favour of the same petitioner represented by Mr. Sory.

He also highlights that Justices Pwamang, Adibu-Asiedu, and Kulendi had all allegedly shown interest in becoming Chief Justice themselves, suggesting possible bias against the current CJ, Justice Torkornoo.

Describing the conduct as “deplorable,” Kumi argues that the only credible path forward is for President Mahama to dissolve the committee and reconstitute it with impartial members to preserve public trust in the process.

The five-member committee was announced by the presidency on April 22, 2025.
