President Mahama mourns Mamponghene

Accra, June 09, GNA – President John Dramani Mahama on Monday joined the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to mourn the Mamponghene Daasebre Osei Bonsu II at the Amaniampong Silver Stool Palace in Ashanti Mampong.  

Daasebre Osei Bonsu (born Saint Oswald Gyimah-Kessie; 31 December 1939 – April 2025) served as the Mamponghene for 29 years until his demise in April.  

President Mahama was accompanied by Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the National Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC); Mr Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey, the General Secretary of the NDC, Ministers of State, including  Mr Ahmed Ibrahim, the Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs; Alhaji Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, Minister for the Interior/National Security Minister, and Dr Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister.  

Other high profile dignitaries who were at the funeral of the late Mamponghene included former Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.  

Also in attendance were former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyemang-Rawlings and Mr Justice Paul Kwadwo Baffoe-Bonnie, the Acting Chief Justice.  

President Mahama made a funeral donation of GH¢250,000.   

At the end of the three-day funeral, the mortal remains of the late Daasebre Osei Bonsu will be laid to rest at the Mampong Royal Mausoleum at midnight on Monday, June 9.
