MANILA, Philippines — As students across the country return to school today, the rainy weather brought by the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) and easterlies pose added challenges to the opening of school year 2025-2026.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the ITCZ is currently affecting Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Caraga and Davao Oriental, bringing rains and thunderstorms with potential risks of flooding and landslides.Meanwhile, the eastern parts of Luzon are experiencing warm and humid weather due to easterlies from the Pacific Ocean.

Although no low-pressure area is currently being monitored inside or near the Philippine area of responsibility, PAGASA warned of isolated thunderstorms, particularly in the afternoon and evening, across many parts of the country.

In Metro Manila, partly cloudy to cloudy skies are expected with isolated rains or thunderstorms. The temperature in the capital will range from 26 to 34 degrees Celsius.

Baguio City will experience a cooler climate, with temperatures ranging from 17 to 25 degrees Celsius. Laoag may see a range of 17 to 32 degrees, while Tuguegarao can expect between 25 to 33 degrees Celsius.

In Southern Luzon, Legazpi City will record temperatures from 26 to 31 degrees Celsius, and Tagaytay City between 24 and 32 degrees Celsius.

In the Visayas, Tacloban is forecast to experience continued rain until midweek, with temperatures from 25 to 33 degrees. Metro Cebu and Iloilo will have mostly fair weather with chances of thunderstorms, with Cebu expected to have temperatures of 24 to 32 degrees, while Iloilo will range from 26 to 32 degrees.

In Mindanao, weather conditions remain generally fair across most areas, although localized thunderstorms are still possible. Metro Davao will see temperatures from 25 to 33 degrees Celsius, Cagayan de Oro from 24 to 33 degrees, and Zamboanga City from 25 to 34 degrees.
